Hair Loss During Pregnancy
For women, hormonal activity is a major factor affecting hair loss. During pregnancy, when a woman's body is awash in hormones, hair can be affected in one of two ways. Often, hair is luxuriant during the pregnancy, only to fall out shortly after the baby's birth. Other women experience significant hair loss during pregnancy itself. In both cases, this condition, called Telogen Effluvium, is caused by follicles being forced into the resting or Telogenic stage of the growth cycle due to the stress of hormonal adjustments.
Stress, nutritional deficiencies and even circulatory problems are all elements that can exacerbate hair loss during pregnancy. The primary culprit, however, is a hormone called DHT, a byproduct of the metabolism of testosterone (both estrogen and testosterone are produced in greater amounts during gestation). DHT bonds with the hair follicle and prevents it from maintaining a healthy growth cycle.
Prevent Hair Loss During Pregnancy
Kevis products offer a way to fight the effects of DHT. We have developed a version of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body, which can block DHT from access to the follicle. Called HUCP, this substance protects the follicle by bonding with it in place of the harmful DHT.
HUCP is the basis of Kevis products, which can effectively prevent hair loss during pregnancy. Our products—shampoo, conditioner, lotion, booster and accelerator—are topically applied, not ingested. And since HUCP is derived from a natural substance and is not a drug, it is entirely safe to use when pregnant.
